The Bible

What is it?

The word BIBLE is a shortened form of BIBLIOGRAPHY, meaning a COLLECTION of writings or books.  But it is MUCH, MUCH more than that.  It is the word of God and a collection of textbooks, history, and operational instructions for us to conduct our lives according to God's design.

When mentioning the Bible, calling the collection "This Book", or "The Book" are we minimizing the value of the contents?  Wouldn't referring to This Bible or The Bible, be more respectful?

The Contents

History

Within the outer covers, the instruction manual for all life on our world is contained.  And not by the mind of man but the Holy Spirit of God, the Creator of all things, Himself.  The contents include historical accounts of several peoples across the globe, some of whom are no longer and others that are merely represented. There were cities and nations that were destroyed by other nations and even the Creator (God) Himself.  Many of these wars can be found in the historical context of the "Bible".  Genesis and Exodus are but two of the Historical books.

Books of Law

Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy contain the Mosaic Law that governed the Israelites (Hebrew peoples) also referred to as the Jewish people. These laws were the basis of conduct within their society. Unfortunately, the people that were tasked with administering that law, became corrupt and began adding their own "laws" to that which God had ordained.

The Prophets

Ezekiel and Daniel are the two best-known writers of prophecy.  Revelation is also a book of prophecy that was written by the Apostle John, the last Apostle, on the Island of Patmos.
